I received this as an e-mail and had to post - its just to freakin' funny.
I especially like the southern/northern comparisons. For those of you that don't know I was born in Chicago, IL, and now have lived in Tx for more than 20 yrs. So I understand both comparisons, lol.
( On a quickie note - my Uncle is still in the hospital, but doing a bit better - thank you for all your kind words.)

My Memory Seems To Have Failed Me...
You Remember 40% of 2008 |
Okay, you were somewhat paying attention during 2008. But you're not going to impress anyone with your knowledge of what went down. You know the basics about what went down, but little else... Let's just say you won't be writing the history book for 2008. |

News and Some ME info...
I'm happy our routine is back in full swing. Chris is off to work, and although the kiddo doesn't go back to school for another week, she isn't here. She always stays with my mom when she has an extended school break, so I dropped her off yesterday and don't get her back until Saturday.
Many of you have commented that you like the new look of my blog. Thank you. I got the template from the Cutest blog on the block. To get there, simply click on the little link in the upper left hand corner of my blog. This site has over 300 free templates for whatever mood you may be in.
Some things I found out over the last few days - Little Coleman and his family desperately need your prayers. If you don't know who I'm talking about, please visit this site. The lastest I heard is that he was airlifted to the hospital on Christmas Day unable to swallow.
Also, on a much less dramatic scale, but none the less prayers are needed, my Uncle Red was hospitalized Friday. He was diagnosed a few days before that with a bad URI and a bladder infection. When my aunt got him to the hospital on Friday his sodium was very low and they said it was a good thing she brought him in. They are going to run some tests today so hopefully everything will be alright.

Picture Catch Up
Okies, I promised I would share pics of the last week when my camera would cooperate and tonight it decided to do so. Here are the pics in NO particular order! This first one of course, is my RING!! my Open Hearts Ring from Chris... isn't it purty? the pink plaid background are my new jammie pants, lol.
This is Sadie - my MIL's 6 mo. old puppy. She is a toy rat terrier, and after a very long day of playing we finally got her to sit still for more than a milisecond so I could take this picture.

This is my child acting weird while trying to show off her new High School Musical jammies
I found this picture on my camera while downloading these tonight - I didn't take this - this looks like a self portrait, lol. Guess Nicole had a few minutes where she was bored.
This is Chris showing his mom how to work her new MP3 player, and telling her all the music he downloaded on it for her

After The Fact
Wow, what a busy two days!
After a slight mixup on Christmas Eve, where I thought my mom was going to be with her sister and my cousins, and they thought she was coming out here, and I found out she was going to be alone( which I might add WAS NOT going to happen) I asked her out here. Her and her dog Tipper. He and my two schmutzes get along great. However we had another two additions to this festive time, that added to the craziness and fun.
My MIL Sue and her new puppy Sadie. Sadie is a 6 month old mini rat terrier. Her new Indian name is Little Pain In The Butt... her nickname is Hyperdrive. Unfortunately for ya'll my camera is not wanting to give up all the pictures I have taken this week, but never fear, my DH will fix it tonight or tomorrow and you will get to see Sadie ( if we can pin her down long enough to get a picture that isn't blurry), and other pictures.
Christmas Eve Chris had to work , but only half a day. Once he got home we all visited, watched movies and ate. We had a great time, and after we had what we considered dinner ( we had ordered 3 dzn tamales - then went to the store and bought anything that just even looked slightly good - so we had a smorgasbord of sorts) we opened family presents.
We all loved everything we got. Nicole made out like a little bandit and is very happy with her haul.
Alot of you hoped, wished and asked if I had received my Open Hearts Necklace.
Now I will mention here and now that when I posted the picture of the necklace , I could only find the one of the 1/4 carat diamond one. I didn't even know it came like that, I just wanted the pretty silver one I had seen advertised.
However, when I went to open my present from Chris, he handed me this huge box - not a tiny jewelry box. It occurred to me that with my hubbys twisted sense of humor, that there actually could be a tiny jewelry box in all those huge boxes.
I was not disappointed.
He had wrapped the outer one very pretty , all glitter and bows. And tape. Lots of tape.
He sat in the corner chair laughing. Everyone was looking and waiting. And laughing more when I came across yet another box. He had also stuffed a ton of newspaper in it. So I had to dig.
Finally I came across another wrapped box. I opened it and found a very pretty top, that goes great with my black slacks. Then I found another tiny box. Small enough for a jewelry box.
I opened it , and a bit teary eyed I found my other present. The Silver Open Hearts Ring.
Chris quickly explained that he had called and gone to several different Kay Jewelers and that they didn't have any more necklaces and the last one he went too only had the one ring left. He said he nearly got in a smackdown to get it too. Apparently the rings only come in one size and after purchase you get it sized - so till then I'm wearing it around my neck with my locket.
I couldn't have been happier. I also received three books, perfume, a new nightgown, and pink jammies. I also got a shirt and sweatshirt fromt the Grande Hotel on Mackinac Island. I have always wanted to go there, and this past fall my aunt and uncle did go there.
Anyway, a wonderful time was had by all. Chris had to go to work this morning, but isn't working this weekend. My MIL and little Sadie is still here, probably till tomorrow. Our dogs aren't sure of the puppy but they are tolerating her. We can also take great comfort that NO ONE will ever be able to get into my MIL's presence /house without her knowing it. So she has a great watch - dog. She's only 8 lbs - but there is alot of fierceness in those 8 lbs, lol.
I hope everyone had a wonderful time as well. I promise to flood my blog with pictures soon.

Avoiding those Sneaky Calories
You know how extra calories seem to just sneak onto your body during the holidays?
For a Christmas party you may slip into some sexy red dress and then three weeks later when you go to wear it for New Year's its a bit tighter?
Well, my friend Christina e-mailed me the PERFECT solution...
Just wave bye bye to all those calories and GOOD LUCK!!
Holiday Diet
The following diet is designed to help you cope with the stress, paranoia, depression and delusion that builds during the holidays...
Breakfast:
1/2 grapefruit
1 slice whole wheat toast
8 oz. skim milk
Lunch:
4 oz. lean broiled chicken breast
1 cup steamed spinach
1 cup herb tea
1 Oreo cookie
Mid-Afternoon snack:
The rest of Oreos in the package
2 pints Rocky Road ice cream, nuts, cherries and whipped cream
1 jar hot fudge sauce
Dinner:
2 loaves garlic bread
4 cans or 1 large pitcher Coke
1 large sausage, mushroom and cheese pizza
3 Snickers bars
Late Evening News:
Entire frozen Sara Lee cheesecake (eaten directly from freezer)
RULES FOR THIS DIET:
-If you eat something and no one sees you eat it, it has no calories.
-If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, the calories in the candy bar are cancelled out by the diet soda.
-When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you do not eat more than they do.
-Food used for medicinal purposes NEVER count, such as hot chocolate, brandy, toast and Sara Lee Cheesecake.
-If you fatten up everyone else around you then you look thinner.
-Movie related foods do not have additional calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel. Examples: Milk Duds, buttered popcorn, Junior Mints, Red Hots, Tootsie Rolls.
-Cookie pieces contain no calories. The process of breaking causes calorie leakage.
-Things licked off knives and spoons have no calories if you are in the process of preparing something.
-Foods that have the same color have the same number of calories. Examples are: spinach and pistachio ice cream; mushrooms and mashed potatoes.
-Chocolate is a universal color and may be substituted for any other food color.
-Anything consumed while standing has no calories. This due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.
-Anything consumed from someone else's plate has no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to his/her plate. (We ALL know how calories like to cling!)
REMEMBER!
STRESSED spelled backwards=DESSERTS

-Things licked off knives and spoons have no calories if you are in the process of preparing something.
-Foods that have the same color have the same number of calories. Examples are: spinach and pistachio ice cream; mushrooms and mashed potatoes.
-Chocolate is a universal color and may be substituted for any other food color.
-Anything consumed while standing has no calories. This due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.
-Anything consumed from someone else's plate has no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to his/her plate. (We ALL know how calories like to cling!)

Rambling Catch-up
Well Good Monday Morning to all out in the blogosphere!
I have some shout-outs to do so here goes...
Please pop over to visit Broken Man and give him and the wife a BIG congrats on the recent birth of their first baby - 9 lb baby Grace.
Also, in the time of joyfulness, lest we not forget those who are suffering in one way or the other - my friend Allison lost her beloved Schnauzer Gracie to a horrible and rare doggy disease this past Friday. Please hop on over and give her some cyber hugs - I think she has finally stopped crying , at least for a little while. Anyone that has ever loved a dog , or any animal for that matter will understand what Allison is going thru.
Yesterday I was lurking in the blogosphere and came across two posts from Queenie Jeannie.
If you want a bit of a saucy read, then click here and here. Those two posts had be LOL big time.
----------------------------
In other Able news - we finally got our Christmas tree up yesterday. It was a little late in getting put up this year. It usually would have been put up last week, but oh well - things happen.
I think we have one more present to pick up , and then we will be done.
I was going to put pics up of some of our favorite ornaments, but my camera not wanting to transfer the pics atm, so those will have to wait.
Over the weekend, it seemed I inherited another child because Chris left the house with just him and Nicole on Saturday, then came home with Nicole AND her BFF Carson.
Carsons mom, Hot Chica, had thrown her back out so we offered to keep Carson for the weekend. It was good all around and the girls had a blast. We also had an extra pair of hands while putting the tree up.
Today Nicole and I going to clean the den and living room, finish putting up little decorations and start wrapping some presents. We will also be doing a bit of baking.
Hope everyone has a great day :)) If you are traveling for the holidays, please be safe!

My Lists
I know what this season is. I know what this season means. I know the true meaning of Christmas. We don't commercialize it in my family. We know its a time for friends, family and lots of good food. We know it is a time to celebrate our Lord.
But everyone likes presents. At least most people I know like presents.
We try to make it more for the kids than anything. My Nicole, and our cousins little kids.
Chris and I usually get each other one or two things and some tiny stocking stuffers. I am usually relatively easy in what I ask for - books, or movies. Chris usually gets me something really nice, like an outfit or sweater or something. I love it.
However this is the first year I have actually asked for something shiny. I usually don't ask for jewelry. 99% of the time I am wearing the gold heart shaped locket that Chris got me the day of our wedding. I also wear my silver heart bracelet he got me for Valentines after Nicole is born.
Sometimes I wear a watch and sometimes I wear earrings.
These last few months I have noticed something from Kay Jewelers that I would love.
The Open Hearts Necklace from Jane Seymour. I think it is absolutely beautiful. Jane Seymour is a wonderful actress, and she is one of the few celebrities that I admire.
Here is a picture of that beautiful necklace:

Of course I also asked for 3 or 4 books, and a movie or two. I wouldn't be me if I didn't.
Hope everyone has a great day. I'm looking forward to decorating this weekend, and starting to bake and such.

Countdown to Christmas
Like JoJo mentioned - a week or less to go. Ugh. I cannot believe Christmas day is one week to the day away. We have NO decorations up yet. I have been getting Christmas cards, but have yet to send any out yet. Now with all good intentions my envelopes are addressed, but the cards aren't actually written out yet. If you are a friend or relative and you usually receive a card from me, you probably still will, just maybe by next Tuesday, lol. Nothing like waiting till the last minute.
I haven't been feeling all that great this week, just a bad cold, no fever, but due to this have not done my normal baking. I will probably have time to do this in the next few days, hopefully. My neighbors usually enjoy the plate of baked goodies they get from me.
Nicole gets out of school today at 12:30p, so tomorrow we get to sleep in - YAY!
Today I will be cleaning the house in anticipation of pulling out all the decorations. I really do like Christmas so am hoping to make it look like it around here - and soon.
I did get a surprise in the mail yesterday. Feeling pretty crappy at the time ( coughing, sneezing and the like), I dragged my butt to the mailbox when I heard the dog alarm that there was an intruder on our property, and lo and hehold what did I get? a very pretty Christmas card from Peach! It made me smile so big and remember all the bloggy love I receive each and every day from my beloved puter.
Hopeing everyone survives the quickly approaching holidays , and has a wonderful time with family,( even those that are hard to get along with)
I will be posting more pics here soon from our family celebration.
Have a great, if not totally busy, day!

Drink anyone?
You Are Cider |
Your holiday personality is cozy. The holidays are your favorite time to stay home, stay warm, and spend time with those you love. You don't need a lot to make you happy over the holidays. Seeing an old relative or favorite holiday film is enough to make your day. |

FOUND 'EM!
Ok, back when I did this post, I promised to TRY to find the three pictures of me in one of my bellydance costumes. Here are two of the three :
These were taken just after my first BIG performance. It was a Christmas Hafla ( dance party).
It was a total rush, and I loved every minute of it.
My costume was made by Chris' aunt , who made the three main costumes I wore during performances. This was the brightest one I had. You can't see all the little bitty bells that were sewn into it, but needless to say you could hear me walking toward you.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. I am NOT working this week so am hohping to get all the Christmas stuff out of the garage and into the house.
Have a great day!

My favorite N things
Queenie Jeannie had this on her blog and it looked like fun , so I thought I'd play along.
The game is an easy one! All you have to do is make a list of ten of your favorite things. But there is a little catch. Everything on the list has to start with a specific letter of the Alphabet. That letter is randomly assigned by the blogger who you are playing with!
She assigned me "N"!
Hmm, I have to think on this one for a bit...
Here goes:
1. Nicole ( relatively obvious...)
2. Noodles ( homemade!)
3. Niceties
4. Neverland ( yes, I like Peter Pan)
5. Nutterbutters ( not fat free but oh peanut buttery goodness)
6. Nickels (they add up, lol!)
7. Nuts ( peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pistachios)
8. Norrath ( the world in the online game we play - Everquest II)
9. Nightgowns ( I like pretty things to sleep in:)
10. Nikki ( My BFF)
Ok, whew, that was not easy!!!! If you want to play along, leave me a comment, and I will thing of a letter for you!
Have a great weekend!

It Was Bound To Happen Sooner or Later
My child is not perfect. In my eyes though shes pretty close.
However, in school, she is VERY GOOD. She is in the 4th grade and has never been called to the principals office or gotten a 'tally' since second grade.
Today she came to me after school with her head hung a bit and handed me a yellow slip of paper. She had gotten a tally for talking after being told not to.
I guess what they say about what goes around comes around is true because believe or not my mouth always got me into trouble in school too. On the rare occasions I actually got caught that is:)
I'm not sure what got her in such a goofy mood, and for those of you dealing with, or have ever dealt with a ten year old, you kow goofy pretty much explains ANY ten year old...
but mine just came up to me while I'm typing this and informed me if you burped and farted at the same time your lungs would collapse.
Have a great evening:)

Circus Act and how you found me
You Should Juggle |
You've got the talent to go far in life, but you don't really like to take risks. You rather practice your well honed skills than put your life in danger. You are agile and coordinated. You can work magic with your hands. You truly mesmerize people. You don't have to resort to cheap tricks and gimmicks. |
_______________________________
Me a juggler? yeah right... I can barely hold a full gallon of milk...
Anyway, I'm surprised I now have over 6000 hits! WOW!!
After looking into what people google to get to my site, I've found a TON of people land here due to searching for the YUMS shoes, and since I have pics of mine and Nicoles, those particular posts are hit pretty hard.
However, there is the odd google search that lets me know there are still a few strange people out there doing weird google searches... Here are a few...
Crazy Headlines of 2008
Yeah, ok, so I think crazy headlines are funny, got a problem with that???
Watermelon Yums Shoes
See? told ya that brings them to my site, only mine are bubble gum and Nicoles are Candy Apple
Woohoo animals Claires
not exactly sure how they landed on my site with this search, but oh well, to each his own...
A Shot in the butt
um, ok... why would you google this? to try to see an actual shot in the butt? they landed on my site with this search, only because nicole was sick one time and got an antibiotic shot in the hiney...

On another note, my friend Peri is thinking about starting a blog. I'm trying to encourage her , she already has some ideas, and is trying to figure out a way to combine her love of cooking with her love of politics. I'd say that would be quite an interesting blog! And written from her little dogs point of view, hehe, please my blogosphere friends, give her some encouragement, I KNOW she reads my blog:)
Have a great day!

Good Morning:))
Ok, so I may not actually be as chipper as my greeting implied, BUT I do want to have some fun for the next few weeks here on my blog.
I am into the Christmas spirit , and have listened to SOME Christmas music.
What I have done today for a bit of a shake up is put together a new playlist of my favorite Christmas songs that are a bit off...
Now please don't email me yelling at me due to my song choices... I have nothing against cross-dressers ( as long as they don't try to wear MY stuff), reindeer, hippopotamuses, chipmunks or rednecks.
Just sit back and enjoy this barrage of slightly off Christmas tunes, and have a good laugh while your at it!
*P.S. I do LOVE traditional Christmas music , but atm, not in the mood for it:)

Friday Night Fun
Chris is finally over the flu and thank goodness mine and Nicoles flu shots are working and we didn't catch it!!!
Anyway, he called me yesterday while he was on his lunch break and asked if Nicole and I wanted to hop a DART train and ride into downtown Dallas, meet up with him, hop another train and ride into downtown Plano for some Christmas fun.
I was working yesterday so after I collected Nicole and William for the ride home I asked her and she said sure it sounded like fun.
Now note this please - I have only ridden our DART bus/train system ONCE, and that was with Chris. I had never looked at a train/bus schedule or anything.
Chris told me to drive to the station, buy two day tickets, and hop the train going North to the St.Paul station.
Ok sounds simple enough.
We got there, bought the tickets, and missed one train, but caught the next one. We snuggled in to two seats and tried to figure out how many stops we had before we had to call Chris. He told me once we got to Union station to let him know .
Well , never having ridden by myself, I was a bit nervous. Thank goodness there was a lady who was obviously train savvy and told me to look above my head and just make note of the stops we were at... yay. Nicole and I read every stop we came to and she counted how many more till we met up with her daddy. It was like a game to her. I felt like an idiot:) It really wasn't that difficult though and Chris met us at the right station, then we hopped the other train to get to Plano. It dropped us off like a block from all the festivities.
When we got off the platform we smelled the most incredible smells, from both restaurants and food vendors. We wound up eating faire type food though - french fries, corn dogs, fried catfish, nachos and lemonade. Healthy huh?
The main thing is we had fun. It was cold enough that we were all bundled up and such, but that didn't matter. There were tons of rosey cheeked kiddos running around.
We also saw some of the most incredible shops. We found a costume shop that had every imaginable costume possible. It was fun to look at all the masks and wigs.
We also added to our healthy dinner by hitting the chocolatier, where we each got one truffle to splurge on. I chose a peanut butter truffle and the chocolate had just a hint of mint - yummy.
Then we found this candle shop. I will have to look at the brochure and put a link up next post as they would make great gifts if you are into candles. The shop I believe was called Tuscan Lights. Just plain Awesome!!!!!
We also found a doll shop that Nicole just had to go into. She wound up getting a small stocking stuffer type Christmas gift , and when we went to pay for it, I found this jolly little lady at the register. I absolutely LOVEd her hat. If you can't tell from the picture it was a boingy Santa hat. Where the cone on top should have been was red sparkly springy wire. Never having seen such a hat I asked her if I could take her picture and she was happy to oblige:)
Since I couldn't take a picture of every tree out there that was decorated with lights, I just got one from afar, but I hope you can use our imagination and see and smell the wonderul things we experienced lastnight.
The train ride back home was long but fun, because we were all together. Needless to say we slept in this morning:)
In other news, we found out the other day that Chris' great-aunt Mildred passed away Thursday. She just didn't wake up from her afternoon nap. We knew she had Lymphoma, but all we kept hearing was that she was doing well, but she always sounded so tired. I'm glad she doesn't have to fight it anymore and is at peace and rest. We will miss her. This also means that my MIL will be coming up here again. So needless to say I'm dusting and picking up today.
Hope ya'll have a great weekend!!!

The Big Disagreement
Ugh... can ANY of you parents out there give me some tips on how to get Nicole to KEEP her room clean after its been cleaned?
I mean, we are in the process of turning her room from little girl to tween-like.
I spent two whole days in there cleaning stuff out, throwing a ton of crap away and making a mountain of yet more stuff to give away. Most of this is clothes and toys she has outgrown.
I had a fair amount of it cleared away, you could see her shelves now, neatly done. All thats left to tackle is the floor of her closet and then her desk and at the foot of her bed on the floor.
Yet for the past couple of days I haven't had the chance to get in there. I walked in there yesterday morning and just about went ballistic.
It doesn't look like I did anything. Now I know I'm NOT a domestic goddess and NO ONE will ever claim me to be one. ( yes I know Hallie claimed the same thing this morning...)
But its kind of the old adage - Do as I say NOT as I do.
I guess I expected what was done to still be done when I went in there. So that means this weekend is given up to redoing what I did and then finsihing the rest. Her dad can then hang her new posters up.
But I'm just afraid after a few days it will again look like nothing was done to it.
Please, Please Please tell me how I can keep that from happening...
( we have already tried threatening her with throwing her things out, grounding her ( shes not really old enough for that to work much), make her do it ( 3 hours later it doesn't look like shes done much...)
I'm at my wits end... please help:)

Sometimes I wish I was a dog so I could curl up wherever I please and be happy with it.
Cher, in the top photo, found a blanket in a chair that someone left there and promptly buried herself in it.
Copper , in the bottom photo is curled up in the dirty laundry pile I had on the floor of the laundry room after seperating clothes. Of course I had to re-seperate them after she pawed them into a pile SHE liked...
Hope everyone is having a great day. I plan on doing absolutley NOTHING more than necessary. This means I will feed myself, get my child off to school, feed the dogs, and hope the hubby stays home since he's still not feeling well, but other than that - NOTHING!!!!
You know how they say mondays are bad? Well, I had a pretty bad one yesterday. I won't go into details , but it was busy and I'm PMS'ing, which may explain alot.
